Cornwall in brief

Cornwall orients itself to the St. Lawrence River before almost anything else. Downtown, Lamoureux Park stretches along the water with Marina 200, the Aquatic Centre, the Cornwall Civic Complex, the Community Museum, Rotary Eco-Gardens, a splash pad, and the Cornwall Recreational Path tying the pieces together. On a summer weekend the park becomes the city's outdoor living room: Canada Day, Arts in the Park, and Cornwall Ribfest all land on that grass. Tax counters now sit on the main floor of the Civic Complex at 100 Water Street East, so even errands pull people toward the waterfront.

West along Highway 2, Guindon Park opens into about 500 acres of trails, river access, the Cornwall BMX Track, and winter ski and snowshoe routes. Locals treat it as a different outing from the downtown strip: longer loops, fat bikes, rowing on the St. Lawrence with the Cornwall Rowing Club, and space that feels farther from Pitt Street than the map suggests. The Benson Centre remains the practical hub for permits and trail passes when someone wants to book a gathering or ride.

Around the harbour, the Port Lands still sit in the conversation as unfinished waterfront business shared with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. Cornwall Transit stitches work and school trips across town, and Glen Stor Dun Lodge anchors care for the city and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Put together it is a Seaway-side city that measures a good day by river air, a festival on Lamoureux Park, or a long circuit through Guindon.

OpenStats Broadband Download Speeds

OpenStats

Cities ranked by estimated best advertised download (Mbps). Anchored to the current ISED National Broadband Data vintage, then backcast along a national speed curve with city-specific fiber-arrival and 50/10 availability paths so relative ranks can change over the decade. Not a claim of audited historical hex maps for every year.

OpenStats Building Permit Value

OpenStats

Cities ranked by calendar-year building permit value. Direct rows sum Statistics Canada Table 34-10-0292-01. Cities without a direct reading use population × provincial per-capita permit intensity (estimated), so every seed city has a year-varying construction signal.

OpenStats City Score

OpenStats

Dimensional average of OpenStats open-data pillars for each panel year 2016–2025: tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, population growth, and crime severity. Each series is scored 0–1 within its edition; series in the same pillar are averaged, then all eight pillars are averaged with equal weight. Missing pillars score at median standing (0.5). Growth and CSI use StatCan annual tables; permits, mill rates, and broadband use live rows plus documented year-varying estimates where needed. Radon, water, and PGA may be survey/model vintages carried forward and are flagged when static for more than two years. External commercial livability lists are never inputs.
