How London scores

Dropping33

London sits at City Score rank #57 with a standing of 55%, from 8 of 8 open-data pillars (tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, growth, safety). Missing pillars score at median standing so thin coverage cannot inflate the rank. Dropping 33 places versus 2022 (#24 → #57).

Latest owned placements: building permit value rank #13 of 172 (2025); indoor radon rank #81 of 117 at 85 Bq/m³ survey mean; residential mill rate rank #9 of 172 (16.76 mill rate). Full tables and method notes live on each study edition; atlas readings for the same slug open from the topic buttons.

London in brief

Londoners organize a surprising amount of weekend life around the Thames River and the asphalt ribbon beside it. The Thames Valley Parkway, usually just the TVP, runs about 45 kilometres through parkland along the river's branches and links into a much larger pathway web. City construction notes still apologize to Londoners when Greenway Park work raises the noise, and Springbank Park stays in the same breath because Springbank Dam partial removal under the One River plan keeps closing and reopening bits of trail. Storybook Gardens sits inside the Springbank amenities list, so family plans and pathway detours collide on the same west-end map.

Civic summer copy is cheerful and practical: neighbourhood park celebrations, outdoor pools, outdoor movie nights, and the Green Bin program sitting in the waste quick links. Harris Park shows up when river-corridor updates need another named bank. On the sports pages, the Free Press keeps the London Knights and London Majors in regular rotation, and Ribfest still earns a photo package when the meat-lovers weekend wraps. Port Stanley appears as a lake day outing in the same paper, the nearby beach London readers already know without a brochure.

Election season adds its own vocabulary. The City is already pointing people to the October 2026 municipal vote, and the Free Press has been testing whether strong mayor powers will matter on the ballot. On the OpenStats City Score for 2026, London sits at rank 34 of 125. Rankings aside, the hometown read is a river you walk beside, a parkway you call the TVP, and junior hockey you follow by the Knights name alone.

OpenStats Broadband Download Speeds

OpenStats

Cities ranked by estimated best advertised download (Mbps). Anchored to the current ISED National Broadband Data vintage, then backcast along a national speed curve with city-specific fiber-arrival and 50/10 availability paths so relative ranks can change over the decade. Not a claim of audited historical hex maps for every year.

OpenStats

OpenStats City Score

OpenStats

Dimensional average of OpenStats open-data pillars for each panel year 2016–2025: tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, population growth, and crime severity. Each series is scored 0–1 within its edition; series in the same pillar are averaged, then all eight pillars are averaged with equal weight. Missing pillars score at median standing (0.5). Growth and CSI use StatCan annual tables; permits, mill rates, and broadband use live rows plus documented year-varying estimates where needed. Radon, water, and PGA may be survey/model vintages carried forward and are flagged when static for more than two years. External commercial livability lists are never inputs.

Places to see

Thames Valley Parkway

The asphalt trail Londoners shorten to TVP, running parkland along the Thames with river crossings and links into neighbourhood paths. Construction seasons make detour literacy part of the hobby.

Springbank Park

A major west-end park on Commissioners Road West with Storybook Gardens in the amenity mix. Dam work and pathway repairs keep it in civic conversation even when you only came to walk.

Greenway Park

A TVP segment near the Greenway Wastewater Treatment Plant where flood-protection construction has been a multi-year neighbour. The pathway stays in use while the machinery does not.
