How Strathmore scores

Dropping−40

Strathmore sits at City Score rank #255 with a standing of 45%, from 5 of 8 open-data pillars (tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, growth, safety). Missing pillars score at median standing so thin coverage cannot inflate the rank. Dropping 40 places versus 2022 (#215 → #255).

Latest owned placements: indoor radon rank #67 of 327 at 135 Bq/m³ survey mean. Full tables and method notes live on each study edition; atlas readings for the same slug open from the topic buttons.

Against the national corpus, Strathmore carries a City Score standing of 45% (rank #255 of 343) with 5 of 8 pillars observed. That sits 5 points below the Alberta peer average across 51 ranked cities. Within Alberta, Strathmore ranks #41 of 51 on City Score.

The strongest signal in the current chart is population growth (standing 69%, rank #109 of 343, +1.7% annual growth). The weakest observed pillar is broadband download (ISED seed tier) (standing 20%, rank #275 of 343).

Drinking-water hardness on the water atlas reads 165 mg/L as CaCO₃ for Strathmore. Compare that figure to the hardness pillar on the chart and to the national hardness guide on the hub.

Strathmore in brief

Strathmore still introduces itself as the Town That Moved, and the municipal heritage page means it literally. When irrigation work shifted the settlement four miles north in 1905, the CPR siding became the new centre, and the nickname stuck longer than the rails. The railway left a working legacy anyway: the Western Irrigation District still runs the system the CPR turned over to users in 1944, so farm talk and town talk share the same water language.

Today the visitor guide and recreation listings read like a Wheatland County hub with Calgary within commuting distance. The Strathmore Stampede anchors summer, Alberta Culture Days and Indigenous events fill the civic calendar, and Siksika Day is proclaimed on the town heritage pages each September. Kinsmen Park sits inside a pathway network the parks department counts at more than 50 kilometres, with splash park, skating, disc golf, and court sports for year-round outdoor use.

Indoor life has named buildings too. The Aquatic Centre runs a six-lane 25-metre pool; the Family Centre Arena carries Olympic and NHL ice; the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre keeps gyms, an indoor track, and turf going when the prairie wind is rude. The Strathmore Times covers council files from fire-truck budgets to The Prairies neighbourhood proposal, which is how growth sounds on a locally owned weekly. The OpenStats City Score ranks Strathmore 66 of 343 in 2026, but the hometown portrait is irrigation ditches, Stampede week, and a town that remembers packing up for a better siding.

Safety · OpenStats

Crime severity not placed

Statistics Canada does not publish a police-service Crime Severity Index that OpenStats can match to Strathmore without copying a province, CMA, or another city. The safety pillar scores at median standing (50%) on City Score, the same rule used for other missing pillars.

Connectivity · OpenStats

OpenStats Broadband Download Speeds

OpenStats

Cities ranked by household-weighted maximum advertised download (Mbps) from ISED National Broadband Data hex ISP rows, with hex-to-city assignment by population-weighted gravity. The headline 2025 score is the dwelling-weighted mean of per-hex technology ceilings (fibre and cable at 1 Gbps, DSL lower). Household-weighted 50/10 availability (%) is stored on atlas rows as avail_5010_pct. Earlier panel years backcast along a national speed curve with city-specific fiber and availability paths.

OpenStats City Score

OpenStats

Dimensional average of OpenStats open-data pillars for each panel year 2016-2025: tax, construction, connectivity, indoor air, water, seismic hazard, population growth, and crime severity. Each series is scored 0-1 within its edition; series in the same pillar are averaged, then all eight pillars are averaged with equal weight. Missing pillars score at median standing (0.5). Crime severity uses StatCan police-service CSI only (Tables 35-10-0026-01 and 35-10-0063-01); cities without a police-service match take median standing on the safety pillar. Growth uses StatCan CSD estimates; construction uses verified municipal building-permit value per resident (population field on each city record, 2021 Census vintage); mill rates and broadband use live rows plus documented year-varying estimates where needed. Radon, water, and PGA may be survey/model vintages carried forward and are flagged when static for more than two years. External commercial livability lists are never inputs.
